BOWEN ISLAND CONSERVANCY — NEW WEBSITE
PROTECT — Section Landing — Page Draft | Phase One | June 2026
Gateway page for the Protect section. Introduces the Conservancy's land protection mandate, summarises the portfolio of protected lands, and directs visitors to individual place pages.

HERO HEADLINE
Some places are too important to lose.
HERO SUBHEADLINE
We work to ensure that the places Bowen Island's ecosystems depend on are protected permanently — for the island and for all that depends on them. Through land acquisition, conservation covenants, and long-term stewardship, what we protect stays protected.

PLACES PROTECTED FOR NATURE
Some places hold more life than we can easily see.
A wetland may store thousands of years of ecological history beneath its surface. A creek carries water, nutrients, and wildlife from forest to shore. Coastal bluffs support plants adapted to thin soils, salt, wind, and summer drought. Forests shelter birds and mammals, slow water, build soil, and connect one habitat to another.
The Bowen Island Conservancy helps protect and care for lands where these natural systems can continue to function.
Some are protected outright by the Conservancy. Others, like Quarry Park, involve stewardship partnerships with the Bowen Island Municipality. Some welcome careful public access. Others need greater quiet and protection. Each place has its own history, ecological character, and stewardship needs.
Together, they form part of a wider network of land, water, shoreline, and habitat across the island.

The Cape Lands
Cape Roger Curtis — 160 acres
In 2024, the Conservancy purchased 160 acres of undeveloped coastal land at Cape Roger Curtis from Metro Vancouver. These lands, including the course of Huszar Creek, will be restored and managed over time as a contiguous conservation corridor alongside the Wild Coast Refuge.
