Board & Strategic Planning
How we’re organized
The Bowen Island Conservancy is governed by an elected volunteer board, which is responsible for the organisation’s direction, legal and financial oversight, land-trust obligations and the care required to carry those responsibilities forward.
The Board works through committees and project teams that bring focused attention to governance, finances, communications, land protection, stewardship and scientific/technical advice. They are supported by other volunteers, donors and partner organisations.
We are a member of the Land Trust Alliance of BC, and the Alliance of Canadian Land Trusts, and we abide by the Canadian Land Trust Standards and Practices.

Our vision is that Nex̱wlélex̱wm/Bowen Island lands and waters remain thriving, connected, and resilient.
Our mission is to protect, preserve, and restore Nex̱wlélex̱wm/Bowen Island’s biodiverse ecosystems by advancing science-based stewardship, inspiring shared responsibility over the long term, and establishing the Bowen Island Conservancy as a trusted and responsive conservation leader.
Our goals for 2026~2031
The Bowen Island Conservancy’s Strategic Plan was approved by the Board on June 15, 2026. It guides the five-year period from 2026 to 2031 and is intended to help us make decisions, focus effort, measure progress and work in concert with others.
1. Protect and Steward Ecosystems on Nex̱wlélex̱wm/Bowen Island
Advance priority land-protection opportunities, implement place-specific stewardship plans and use appropriate policy, planning and protection tools in and beyond Conservancy lands.
2. Build a Technical Foundation for Adaptive Management
Develop monitoring, assessment criteria, structured community science and research partnerships so decisions can respond to what is learned over time.
3. Foster an Island-wide Shared Care for Nature
Strengthen community learning, demonstrate practical stewardship, create opportunities for appreciation and connection, build relationships and communicate results clearly.
4. Strengthen Organizational Capacity and Effectiveness
Develop the leadership, governance, volunteer systems, financial planning and reporting needed to carry long-term conservation responsibilities reliably.
The Strategic Plan provides a high-level framework for direction and decision-making. Annual work plans and budgets set practical priorities and tasks, according to ecological need, legal responsibilities, people, funding, and organisational readiness. Read the plan
